On Demand Video Transcoding: Solutions for the Long Tail
As the "long tail" of Internet video grows longer, content creators are looking to new outlets for cross marketing video. And with new technologies now in place, IPTV has become a viable revenue platform. On-demand transcoding enables video to be transcoded and served to a customer as they request it, eliminating the need to pre-transcode and store multiple copies of every video. This allows broadcasters, syndicators, operators and user generated video Web sites to grow their business and add new revenue through cross marketing of video content, while giving IPTV customers immediate access to an unlimited library of content choices.

Making HD Video for the Web a Reality
While web video has developed as an industry over the last couple of years, the focus has been on content and consumer adoption first and foremost. Now the requirement for video quality is becoming important, both for differentiation and for consumer satisfaction. The next phase of web video, whether that be prime time shows, social networking or user generated content will rely on quality to deliver full screen television like experiences. The next twelve months will usher in high definition (HD) web video as a key requirement . While most of the focus is on bandwidth requirements for HD video, the critical factor in its adoption is closer to home, the consumer?s home. Most consumer PCs are ill equipped to deal with HD video?s processing power requirements. Bill Joll, president and CEO of On2 Technologies, will talk about how On2?s video compression has made almost HD quality web video possible today with customers such as Adobe (Flash), Vividas and Move Networks, and how On2 is addressing the future of HD video on the web with its TrueMotion compression that simplifies HD playback on mass market PCs, and will be a critical factor in delivering HD to mobile and portable devices very soon.
Speaker Bio: Bill Joll is president and CEO of On2 Technologies, a developer of video compression technology. Prior to joining On2, he served as vice president of marketing, carrier solutions, at RealNetworks. He also spent 18 years at Nortel, where he served as president of marketing for Europe, general manager of two different carrier product lines, and head of product management in Asia and Latin America.
In 2000, Joll left Nortel to serve as CEO of two technology start-ups, Maple Optical and Threshold Networks. He holds a bachelors and masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba and is a citizen of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Taming the TV 2.0 Beast: Monetization of Internet TV
The movement towards Web TV programming gives content owners, organizations and marketers a whole new set of tools to explore interactive ways of engaging their audience. However, it also creates two core challenges: viewers are free to watch any program, any time; and these viewers have a low tolerance for traditional, scheduled commercial breaks. Companies now need to devise unobtrusive, highly targeted methods to monetize their audiences, creating mutually beneficial relationships between the consumer and the advertiser.
Speaker Bio: Matt Kaplan, VP Creative and Client Services, is responsible for managing the delivery of customer engagements and championing the design and creation of unique PermissionTV viewer experiences. Matt brings over 15 years of interactive product design and development experience to PermissionTV. As co-founder of the AdValue Network, a B2B exchange for television and radio advertising, Matt developed an Internet media buying and selling service used by major ad agencies and broadcasters including the CBS, NBC and ABC owned and operated stations. As VP Client Services for Comet Learning, Matt managed relationships and delivered e-learning solutions for major brands including Sony, Hewlett Packard, Fujifilm, Best Buy and CompUSA. Previously as VP of interactive agency AGENCY.COM, Matt pioneered the design and implementation of Internet community and knowledge sharing tools and practices. After receiving a bachelor?s degree in Mathematics with Computer Science from MIT, Matt began his career as a project manager at Cambridge Technology Partners.
The Monitization Mandate: How Major Broadcasters are Changing Their View of Streaming Video
John Edwards, a frequent broadcast industry speaker and CEO of Move Networks, will speak to how major networks are navigating the unknown waters of online video distribution, and some of the forces driving their decisions. John will explore some of the various content delivery models (such as the "get your content everywhere" approach, the "community" approach of having the core content on a broadcasters web site, and the portal approach used by sites like Hulu and Joost).
Speaker Bio: Mr. Edwards has more than 25 years of experience in the technology industry, including 12 years in key executive positions for high- growth companies. This experience includes servicing as Chairman and CEO of I-Link Corporation (enhanced VoIP services), President of Coresoft (object-oriented business systems for telephony and data), President of Digital Research (owners of DR-DOS), and Executive Vice President of Novell (enterprise networking). Career accomplishments include leading the first delivery of Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) technology to the market and implementing the first file and print server and operating system (NetWare). In 2007, Mr. Edwards spoke at a number of industry events including the prestigious Montgomery Conference, AlwaysOn OnHollywood and the Forbes Meet II conference.
How to Deliver High Quality Internet Video for Your Company's Broadcast Needs
Important items to consider when choosing video applications for your web site are quality and download speed. In order to meet viewer expectations for video set by HDTV, content providers must re-evaluate the way video is delivered. This session will discuss the next phase in the Internet video evolution: perfecting video quality and enabling long-form content. By offering long-form, HD-quality video, content providers can capitalize on the online video opportunity and increase customer satisfaction. Enhancing video quality is made simple with a new generation of backend technologies that are easy to deploy and use.

The SCDN eFLV player will be required to display the eFLV file along with any keys. The future SDN system will incorporate a replaceable encryption modules to allow the vendor to select the method and strength of the encryption process. Demo(s) will be shown if time permits.

Bringing On-Demand Platforms to the Demanding Audience
The Internet has made it increasingly easy for consumers to access content they want: a newly released movie, a sporting event taking place half-way around the world, or a YouTube video. Previously only available through TiVo and Slingbox consumers with Internet access now have on-demand access to any content on the Internet. While content is now easy to access ? it's not easy to transpose onto everyone's favorite display platform ? the big screen HD TV.
During this session, we will discuss platform-agnostic solutions available today, and the simplicity of bringing Internet content to the masses.
Speaker Bio: Anil Sawe is Director of Marketing for PC2TV products at Quartics, Inc.
